Bill was an industrial engineer who took the helm of his family’s company and built it into a national leader in the sign industry. In the 1960s, when Bill Trucksess was in his 30s, he became president of Philadelphia Sign, founded in 1911 by his father, Andrew, who was 18 at the time and purchased a sign business for $500.
Under the Trucksess family leadership, Philadelphia Sign (PSCO) has grown to be one of the largest, most influential sign companies in the nation. The company’s timeline mirrors the growth of the U.S. and at times, has reflected the history of the world. From the heyday of neon through wartime efforts to the rise of retail chains and multi-site conversions, PSCO has been at the forefront over the decades. Bill Trucksess, oversaw all corporate operations from the 1960s to 2012. He passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 surrounded by family and loved ones. He was eighty-seven years old.
Citizens Bank Park is the oldest ballpark in the National League East, opening in 2004 and preceding Nationals Park (2008), Citi Field (2009), Marlins Park (2012) and SunTrust Park (2017). Subjectively, it remains one of the better ballparks in baseball, particularly with sightlines for fans. Family-Friendly, “The Yard”, was created to attract more young people to the ballfield. Philadelphia Sign was pleased to install a scaled-down version of the team’s “PhanaVision” scoreboard for the wiffle ball field. We partnered with Daktronics to complete the signage for the ribbon cutting and opening day.
The 13.5’ x 5’ Phillies logo (with face lit channel letters on steel supports) is located above the digital scoreboard and was erected by the Philadelphia Sign install team.
The goal of the project was to design, fabricate and successfully install a digital scoreboard that mimics the official Phillies scoreboard. This completes the interactive baseball experience that gets kids in the game.
“The Yard” allows kids to hit wiffle balls and run the bases on the Citizens Bank “Phan Field” located in right center field. The Phillies organization is focused on bringing fans back to the 15-year-old ballpark, a few seasons removed from the World Series-winning heyday of Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels.
